Living El Paso

I’m a weather nerd

June 24, 2009 · 7 Comments

I love weather and I always will.  I was the kid in 6th grade who would come home from school and watch the Weather Channel for 3 hours straight.  My parents would kindly let me know that I was watching the same thing over and over.

When I moved out to El Paso, I understood what I was giving up…severe thunderstorms, massive flooding, tropical weather…you know…the good stuff.  Just to clarify, I enjoy the weather, but not the bad effects it has on people…that part is terrible.

Here I am in El Paso; hot, dry, beautiful, but a little boring weather wise.  When these past few days rolled in and brought wet weather, I got really excited.  However, I had the unfortunate luck of being everywhere the rain was not.  I could see it and hear the thunder, but I couldn’t experience it.  Maybe today  is the day, I don’t know, but if you do have a shower/thunderstorm come to where you are…think of me.

My name is David and I am living El Paso.

I heard about the “great” flood of 06….dvds floating down the streets, waterfalls on mountains, etc…

I just put your site up in my blog roll

I would give up tornado’s, severe weather, humid hot 100 plus degree’s for “boring” any day.

I like to the smell in the air after it rains in El Paso. I love the cool summer evenings.

Dust storms…not too bad compared to the unconfirmed tornado we had three weeks ago.

Cool summer evenings are great and I love that special smell too…but it has to rain to get it and if I don’t get rain, I don’t get the smell.

Dust storms are an ok substitute for thunderstorms….kinda like when your SUV is in the shop and they give you a Ford Festiva as your rental for the day….

Excuse me, Dave – I would trade in a heartbeat. Do you recall me saying (many times) how much I miss the weather in EP? Officially, it’s supposed to 101 today, but it was 107 at 1:30 PM as I walked through the parking lot at HEB – and you know it never cools off at night here – give me YOUR boring weather!!

107 is definitely hot and I hope it cools down. San Antonio is experiencing some rough conditions and it seems more like the desert out there than here. Maybe some tropical relief will come in the next few weeks
