Do you support the new ballpark in downtown?

If you do, then sign this petition.  The petition was put together by a group called Bring It El Paso   If you are wondering, this is what it says,

Petition Letter

Greetings,

El Paso is at a pivotal point in charting the course for its future. With the Paul Foster School of Medicine, the Medical Center of the Americas and the expansion of Ft. Bliss, El Paso is on its way to becoming an economic hub for the Southwest. El Paso has many unique qualities that place us at an advantage when compared to other cities, but we are missing one critical component, quality of life.

We believe that an initial investment today in downtown El Paso is necessary to become a more attractive city to outside companies; companies that tomorrow will contribute substantially to the tax base. Having a Triple-A minor league team in downtown El Paso is the type of initiative that will elevate our quality of life and will become the catalyst to revitalizing downtown. Please support our efforts, sign our petition and help move El Paso forward. Bring it, El Paso!

If you support the ballpark…stop being quiet and sign this petition.  Let your voice be heard or risk El Paso losing out on a major opportunity.

My name is David and I am living El Paso.

Well, if we dont get a baseball stadium then why not a Soccer stadium which will have more support than a baseball stadium. The MLS wont come to El Paso but maybe the NASL which is one league below the MLS just like Triple A baseball.
This is the soccer pyramid of the United States which keeps expanding every year with a lot of support.
    1. The MLS which is like the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL. It wont come to El Paso but if a group of owners jump in and the city makes a 18,000-20,000 seat soccer stadium, the MLS will definitely take a look. If Portland, Oregon- Salt Lake City, Columbus Ohio, have an MLS team why not El Paso Teas. Major League Soccer http://www.mlssoccer.com/
    2. The NASL, which is like Triple A baseball would definitely come to El Paso with or without a soccer stadium downtown but if made El Paso would be a no brainer. The NASL is a way less expensive league compare to MLS and El Paso would have no problem with this league, especially with El Pasos demographics.
Home | North American Soccer League http://www.nasl.com/
    3. The USL which has subdivisions from the USL-PRO to the youth but USL PRO being the top division. In reality the El Paso Patriots play in the PDL subdivision of the USL but their stadium situation is very negative and the city gives them about 10% support which is nothing.
In conclusion, I support the El Paso downtown baseball stadium but a soccer stadium would be jackpot in El Paso. Maybe the tiguas should convert their Cohen stadium into a soccer stadium.

nobody likes baseball in el paso dude can you get that? even portland ditched this shitty team and picked soccer over bball, PORTLAND a mostly white city, as did escondido and tucson, if we build this ballpork, we wont be able to use it for other things later, hell, bball barely fits in there, and why do we have to hook them up with a new city hall? why can’t BILLIONAIRE foster get a couple of his millions and build his ballpork behind the el paos times or asarco or practically anywhere else in el paso’s vast desert? this decision is so retarded it would be funny where we not getting screwed

I don’t support the ballpark. Many reasons why. The cost to demolish, relocate personnel, revamp the buildings, purchasing other buildings and building the ballpark has just about doubled from the original figures. We must remember that baseball is seasonal and not a year round event. Everyone is boasting about how it will rejuvenate downtown. I don’t see it. How will it do anything positive when it will be open for five months. Then they are bringing in a team that stinks, oh yeah that will bring in fans for sure. Yeah right! Also a ballpark that seats only 9000 now how is that gonna benefit all of El Paso. The only ones that will benefit are the Foster’s and Hunt’s and families like theirs that can afford the ticket cost. I guarantee they will be giving tickets away to fill it because the majority of the citizens are low income, on welfare and on food stamps. Therefore the cost to maintain the facility year round is gonna come from whom…yes of course the tax payer. Yes David that means you too! The cost to repair city hall is less than 20 million verses close to 100 million for the whole ballpark process. Now the city is already 850 million in debt so we continue on the track like our nation to self destruction because of the debt. Geezz what the Heck are you guys thinking about. We can’t even fill Cohen stadium what makes the citizens who are for it think that they can fill the ballpark. I hope the petition against the process is a success otherwise you and I and the citizens that don’t want it will dearly suffer.

Martin, thanks for heading over and checking out the blog! I would have to say that a majority of people that go to minor league games don’t really care about w’s and l’s. It’s about the fan experience and the possibility of watching potential big leaguers and also pros who are coming back to rehab.

The city planned on leaving city hall in the near future….so this just speeds that process up. I think you will be surprised by the full stadiums this team will generate…if it doesn’t…I will be the the first to eat crow.

Taxes are already high, I understand that…but I don’t mind paying a tiny bit more if it improves my quality of life…obviously my personal opinion.

I think El Paso will come out for the better….this one project is going to spur many more projects not only downtown but in other parts of the city.

Thanks again for reading and commenting!
