The lights went down, the crowd grew quiet, and a gentleman began sweeping…rythmically. That was the start to a fun filled show in which everything from brooms and lighters to kitchen sinks and trash cans got banged/tapped. The show kept the momentum going for most of the 90 minutes and really finished off strong. With humor and crowd participation, the performers kept me wanting more.
STOMP performs again tonight at the Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso @ 7:30 p.m.
If you haven’t been, you need to go experience Alfresco Fridays. In fact, you are in luck…there is one tomorrow night! It starts at 5:30 and is located between the Plaza Theatre and the Art Museum downtown.
I went for my first time two weeks ago when Jim Murphy and his blues band were playing. Don’t forget to bring cash so that you can buy beverages/food.
Sorry for no post yesterday, the sick bug attacked me and I was stuck in bed the whole day. Anyway,I’ve always wondered why El Paso doesn’t have a huge resort waterpark like Schlitterbahn. Wet n Wild is nice, but too small. It has no appeal as you drive by it on I-10.
There is enough land in the El Paso area to build a waterpark resort. Schitterbahn is building one in Kansas City of all places. I appreciate Wet n Wild for taking the chance on the El Paso/Juarez/Las Cruces area so long ago, but it is time for a change, and maybe they would be willing to make it.

Quality of life is one of the tools that people look at when thinking about relocating. Now is a resort waterpark going to be the deal breaker, probably not, but it would help.
Resorts like Schlitterbahn and Six Flags are places that I grew up with in San Antonio. I just see so much potential for the El Paso area and I would like to see it develop here because I know it would work. You can’t beat over 300 days of sun, can you?
The county had their vote yesterday on whether or not to approve $4 million in tax incentives for Regency Foster. The result? 3-1 vote against giving Regency/Foster the money to go forward to remove the blight. It’s too bad that El Paso has to lose out. The drive on I-10 into town is not the prettiest and this project would have done a lot to help out that situation.
If I remember correctly, Artemio de La Vega had said that if the project didn’t come through, he had plans to do something with the property. Well…time to put your money where your mouth is. I’m not one to get upset, but people that hold a city back for their own selfish reasons gets me fired up. Simon properties needs to take a good look in the mirror too. This company tried to get the same tax incentives a few years back and failed. I guess they figured if they couldn’t have it, nobody else could either.
This project would have only helped El Paso and the way the agreement was set up…almost no risk with it for the city and county!
In other news…
I heard Impressions 2008 was great. Found these videos on YouTube. Thanks to staticcrave & javotobe for posting them. I look forward to being at the show next year, assuming that there will be one. I will try and find that out this week.
I also said that I would find and post a video of the Snowbirds from the Amigo Airsho. Thank you to Danny Esparza for uploading this video from the show.
