Saigon Taste Is Tasty

Located in a shopping center off Mesa near Coronado High School, Saigon Taste is a hidden treasure.   Mallory found out about it through a post on a friend’s Facebook page and decided that we needed to go try it out….social media marketing at its best!

The food is delicious and I was so busy eating that I forgot to take pictures….guess I have to go back.  The service was spot on and the restaurant is clean which is always nice…and they take cash/most credit cards.

I recommend starting out with a couple spring rolls and then exploring the menu from there.  Saigon Taste is located at 6940 N. Mesa    Look for them on Facebook…search Saigon Taste El Paso.   If you don’t want to believe my review, then check out what the peeps on Urban Spoon have to say.

Corner Bakery Cafe

Read in the “whispers” section of the El Paso Inc. that the Corner Bakery  Cafe is thinking about opening up on the West Side….I am all for this!  I will go to the location over on the East Side if I’m in that neck of the woods but I love the possibility of seeing this place open off Sunland Park.

Rumor Mill Wednesday: In-N-Out expanding to Texas

I keep hearing through different sites that it appears In-N-Out Burger has begun the expansio

n process intoTexas….not El Paso…yet, but into Dallas, more specifically Garland.

What does this mean for El Paso?  I’m not sure yet.  If they do in fact open up in Dallas, the next Texas big cities are not far behind with El Paso more than likely coming last after Big D, H-Town, Austin, & San Antonio.

Thought you guys might be interested, I will let you know if I hear more.

My trip to Rosco’s

I finally made it to the storied burger joint on the NE side of town, Rosco’s!  In 2009, Texas Monthly named Rosco’s as one of the top 50 burgers in Texas.

My friend Kyle and his younger brother met me there on Saturday afternoon @ around 4:15.  I came with no cash….not smart on my part.  They only take cash…luckily, Kyle picked up the tab…I owe him…maybe a trip to Piedras to go eat at Papa Burger.

Not sure what to get, I just got what the other guys got…a double meat cheeseburger with some onion rings…they had already run out of fries by the time we got there.

I have to say, I appreciated that they cut my burger in half so that it was manageable.  Another friend told my wife, who told me, that he calls Rosco’s burger the “commitment burger” because once you pick it up you can’t put it down because of the grease.

Honestly, the grease wasn’t too bad on the burger.  It  held together well and was delicious.  Is it my favorite burger ever…no, but it is in my top 3 for sure, probably tied for 2nd or 3rd with Papa Burger/Chris Madrid’s.  Burger Barn in Waco, TX is still my favorite.

Will I be going back to Rosco’s? Definitely. Should you go? For sure.

Summer time is near and that means that snow cones are in order.  I need help finding the best snow cone/raspa stand and it doesn’t matter what part of town it is on.  My favorite flavors…grape and strawberry…least favorite is coconut.

The Art of El Paso Grilling

I just purchased my first grill last week…the lucky winner…the Weber Performer (pictured below).  It has been a long time since I cooked with charcoal but it felt good, really good.  The Weber Performer uses small propane tanks to ignite the charcoal…goodbye lighter fluid.  So I am currently having fun doing experiments with different food products and last night, as I was grilling, a question popped in my head.

I wonder how El Pasoan’s grill and what their secrets are.  Seeing that El Paso enjoys near perfect weather year round, it figures that some of the best grillmasters should be from here….right?  I pose this question to any and all readers…what are some tips for a newbie griller like myself who is trying to get back into the charcoal scene?

Blue Pepper Mexican Grill

I really enjoy this new restaurant located off of Mesa/Resler next door to the Cold Stone.  For those who have ever been to a Chipotle or Freebirds, it is a lot like those eateries.  Choose the size of your tortilla (bowls/tacos also available), choice of meat, veggies, and salsa.  For about 6 bucks you can have a nice meal!  Here is a link to the half off store for those who are big burrito lovers

Krispy Kreme urge

I was over on the Eastside today taking care of some business and the Krispy Kreme store caught my eye.  I never try to eat donuts, especially with my new fitness goals….anyway, I got one, so there….I just have to run for like 30 more seconds to burn it off….isn’t that how it works?
 

For those wondering, the KrispyKreme in El Paso is located off of  I-10 in the Las Palmas Shopping Center, take the Zaragoza Exit.
