Breakfast Tacos, I miss them.

No, I am not talking about breakfast burritos, nor am I talking about Taco Cabana.  There is a great eatery in San Antonio called Las Palapas, a place where I spent a lot of hours with friends while growing up.  Think of it like Chicos minus the controversy.

My favorite order…Three Potato, Bacon, & Egg Tacos with lots of brown, green, and red sauce.  All you need is a flour tortilla, bacon, eggs, and potatoes.  Of course you can change it up….Bean & Bacon, Bean & Egg, Bacon & Egg, Potato & Egg, Chorizo & Egg and on and on the list goes.

Urban Spotlight has a post on another one of my favorites in San Antonio, Ruthies!  http://urbanspotlight.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/breakfast-tacos/

Anybody know of a spot in town where I can find a breakfast taco?

Any relation to the city?

I’m sure everybody has used Old El Paso products for their Mexican food.  I was wondering if Old El Paso started out here and then got acquired by General Mills or was it just some marketing idea from some guys up North?

By the way, I think I found the best green salsa available in El Paso.  It is called Herdez and I love it.

Happy Monday El Paso

Good morning/almost afternoon,

Well I have a confession.  I wasn’t able to make it to either showing of the symphony….I feel really bad….but I plan on going at some point.  I was really busy with work this weekend.   I did make it to the UTEP game…30 min late.  I had a wonderful time and always enjoy cheering on a new hometown team.

My brother-in-law flew in from Phoenix yesterday for the Texas vs. The Nation game.  One of his favorite restaurants to eat at was Forti’s when it was in the airport.  Since they are no longer there, I took him to the one on Chelsea St.  I had never been there myself, so it was a treat for me also.  The food is superb and is now my #1 mexican food restaurant here in El Paso.  That’s right…I have a favorite mexican food restaurant.  Food is great, atmosphere is lively, and the prices are reasonable.

Beto O’Rourkes weekly meeting was this morning and County Commissioner Veronica Escobar was the featured speaker.  She was interesting to listen to  and it was good to learn how the county works.  Next week at the meeting will be U.S. Congressman Reyes.

Cheap Burritos, oh, and they are real too

So there is this place down Mesa called Real Burrit-o.  Don’t ask me why there is a hyphen, there just is.  I was a little skeptical about it before we went.

check out that intense hyphen

Once inside, there is a very large chalkboard menu.  All the menu items are in Spanish, but each item has a corresponding number.  So, if you don’t speak Spanish, you kinda have to do guess & check.  The food is cheap, so if you don’t like one burrito you can get a another.  The cost is usually around $2.50 for a very hearty burrito.  Avocado & cheese is extra.  For the health conscious, there are wheat tortillas.  They also have tortas and gorditas.  I recommend their breakfast burritos, best in town*   Find it at 4172 N Mesa St # B, El Paso, TX(915) 543-9470

* When I say best in town, I mean of what I found so far, which isn’t a whole lot.  I am sure the Lower Valley, East side, and North East all have great places too.
