Here is the latest line up from Neon Desert Music Festival for 2012. I’m getting excited to see Moby for the first time and also see Sparta…last time I saw them was in San Antonio when they opened for Weezer.
This past weekend was pretty busy for me work wise, but on Sunday afternoon it was as if I had been transported to another place. I attended the Bruce Nehring Consort and was hooked from the first note played/sung. While listening, it was as if I was in a church in Moscow with snow falling outside or perhaps attending a royal ceremony in London….but I was in El Paso, TX at the Loretto Chapel and I couldn’t be happier.
The Church was full and the acoustics were superb. I got chills numerous times and was so glad that my friend Bob, who sings with the group, let me know about the performance. Next time someone says El Paso lacks a sophisticated music scene, send them to a Bruce Nehring Consort…I hear their Christmas show is great.
Last night was also the first time I have gotten to break out the telescope in a while. At first, I was having trouble seeing anything because of light issues…so I lowered my tripod and that seemed to do the trick. Even though the atmospheric conditions weren’t great, it still is thrilling to be able to peer into the El Paso night sky.
I hope everyone has a happy Monday and let’s look forward to a productive week!
For those who enjoy classical singing and string, there will be some beautiful music being played/sung at the Loretto Chapel tonight at 7:30 and tomorrow at 2:30. The show will be about an hour and half and I am looking forward to attending. There is an admission price but I’m not for sure on the cost. I believe it is around $12…I think. If anyone knows for sure, please leave a comment.
went to UTEP for a couple of years before he dropped out and headed to Austin to launch his music career. I love that El Paso has played a role in so many peoples lives…even if it was for a short period of time. Actually, 93.1 radio DJ lady said he attended elementary, middle, and high school here but I couldn’t find anything online to back up that claim.
Anyway, thought it was interesting since I enjoy his music and thought I would share it with you.
I enjoyed reading this article from Doug Pullen in the eptimes today that covered Britney Spears tour director, Steve Dixon, an El Pasoan. Although I am not a native to the city, it is still exciting for me to see the local talent doing well and promoting El Paso in a positive light.
Like I have stated before, people can’t look at El Paso on a piece of paper, they have to physically come here to see the potential and most people are surprised, in a positive way, after their visit.
Hey everybody. I wanted to thank everyone for the comments and let you know that I will get to them as soon as I can. Also, I still have more to share on Asarco plus a few other interesting pieces of information that I will post up next week.
For those that remember an earlier post about El Paso DJ, Esteban Carrasco, I have more news for you. Last time he was playing poolside with Estelle, well, this most recent time, he was spinning with Mena Suvari in attendance. Good to see him getting more national publicity.
If anyone is interested, he will be playing on Sunday, September 6th, poolside at the Mondrian in Scottsdale, AZ.
Just wanted to give a heads up to all the live music fans out there in El Paso. At 8:30 p.m. August 25th (that is today!), Alyse Black and Aly Tadros will be performing at the Percolator. Both have albums due out in the next few months with Alyse’s out October 6th and Aly’s out on August 22nd.
It is always a treat to have live acts come to El Paso and share their love of music with the Sun City. If you get a chance, head on out to the Percolator and give these two singers a listen.
In my opinion, one of the wonders of the human world is music. Music has the ability to make us laugh, cry, reflect, inspire, create, calm etc. I really enjoy instrumentals and when I find a good one, I like to share with others. Adam Young, who heads up Owl City, has some other side projects…one being Port Blue. If you want to give them a listen, click play on the videos below.
btw, I went to a new restaurant downtown last night and also caught the last hour of the French Connection at the Plaza…more on that on Monday.
