I’m curious as to how many UTEP events the average El Pasoan attends every year.

I truly love this time of year. Fall is getting ready to start…well, the El Paso version of Fall…and college football is
beginning. Yes, I enjoy the top 25 games but I really love my Baylor Bears and my new second favorite, UTEP Miners.
Night games at the Sun Bowl are special and so are the fans. El Paso fans cheer harder than any other fan base that I know of….it helps even more if the team is winning.
I won’t be able to make the home opener this Saturday but I hope many of you will be there in my place…cheering hard as Coach Price walks down the stairs with his Pickaxe.
Wanna get hyped?

Driving home from the airport last night, a thought came to me…When UTEP wins…do they light any part of campus up? Here some examples of places that light it up after a win….when I say light it up, I mean electricity.

So where are some prominent places on UTEP’s campus where the this could be done? UT’s and Baylor’s lighted towers are both visible from I-35 so everyone knows when the schools won. If they decided to keep the stacks at Asarco…maybe those could be lit up to signify a UTEP victory?
What are your thoughts on this idea?

I’ve been looking for a site that covers UTEP Athletics and I found it at MinerRush.com Adrian, who operates the site, covers everything UTEP sports. He currently has some great articles up on the conference realignment and it possible impact on UTEP. click here to check out the article

UTEP has become one of my favorite schools to cheer for in college athletics. The only school they are behind are my beloved Baylor Bears. I have been fortunate enough to have gotten to attend both football and basketball games this past year. The basketball team’s 16 game win streak this year was fascinating to watch and add a little Randy Culpepper flying through the air like he got shot out of a circus canon makes the experience that much better.
Then there are the fans. The fans here in El Paso are passionate when their teams are doing well. However, with Tim Floyd now at the helm, I expect the The Don (I can call it that now…right?) to be close to sold out every game next season. Watching the press conference when Floyd was announced felt nostalgic and I am not even from here. I could almost get a sense of what the atmosphere was like here in the 80′s when Haskins was coaching up the Miners.
Here is to a productive 2010-2011 athletic season for all UTEP Sports! Go MINERS!

These guys made an impressive comeback and beat a U of H team who was out to play spoiler. I am so happy all the fans got to see this team win a gritty one. Now we need to sell out the the Don this Saturday against Tulsa!! btw…Derrick Caracter played like a beast, kind of reminds me of a Shaquille O’Neal type of player.

went to UTEP for a couple of years before he dropped out and headed to Austin to launch his music career. I love that El Paso has played a role in so many peoples lives…even if it was for a short period of time. Actually, 93.1 radio DJ lady said he attended elementary, middle, and high school here but I couldn’t find anything online to back up that claim.
Anyway, thought it was interesting since I enjoy his music and thought I would share it with you.

It is that time a year again for college football fans in El Paso. Want a chance to catch future NFL players running, jumping, catching, and tackling right here EP? If you do, then you won’t want to miss this game.
Two of my Baylor Bears will be out there proving themselves to scouts and fans….David Gettis, a receiver and Jordan Lake, a safety. These two were playmakers during their time at BU and I am excited for them to be out here in El Paso.
Here is highlight video that features Gettis and Lake who will be playing in El Paso.
Speaking of, I would like to see a Baylor vs. UTEP game sometime in the future…Bob Stull needs to work on that matchup.
If you are looking for tickets to the college all star game, click here to find out more info. Tickets range from $8 – $40 although you might be able to find some free ones if you look hard enough.
See you there on February 6th at 12 p.m.!

I hope many of you are making the trip to go watch the Stanford Cardinal face off against the Sooners from Oklahoma. A nationally televised game on CBS, beautiful weather, and sold out stadium should put a good face on El Paso.
I wish I could watch today, but I will be working…so enjoy it for me!
On another note, I heard the UTEP Bookstore is closed today which is kinda crazy with all of the people that will be around there today…dumb move on UTEP’s part if it is in fact closed.

I was downtown yesterday for a few hours and had the chance to take a brief break at San Jacinto Plaza. It was really relaxing and the holiday music that was playing was a nice touch too. If you get a chance, make a trip to downtown, visit the museums, eat at one of the restaurants, and then take a stroll through the plaza and maybe even sit down on a bench to take in how downtown is evolving for the better.
I know I have been slacking on the Business of the Month section and I apologize. There are a ton of great places to feature, I just need to get out and take my camera with me so I can snap a couple of shots.
Big game for UTEP tonight against Ole Miss. The game won’t be on T.V. but you can catch on 92.3 the Fox.
Also, any recommendations on the best place to purchase tamales in town? Thanks!
